The American Lineman: Spanning the Strait
Spanning the Strait is a collaborative effort between Alan Drew and Northwest Lineman College (NLC) to promote and preserve the history of one of the most significant projects in the history of the power industry: The Carquinez Strait Crossing. It is intended to be a companion to The American Lineman as it recognizes and focuses on the efforts made by linemen throughout the project. It is our hope that the reader will gain a feel for "how it must have been" to accomplish such a challenging project with so little experience to draw from.
With over 200 photos and illustrations, Spanning the Strait provides the reader with a complete history of another record-breaking project built largely by linemen. The beginning of the book includes information about other early pioneering transmissions of electric power in the United States and concludes with a comparison of how far the power industry has come in just over 100 years.
